A Wedding Photographer’s Favorite Part of the Day (It’s Not What You Think)
From a West Michigan Wedding Photographer
When people ask me what my favorite part of a wedding day is, they usually expect a pretty typical answer.
The ceremony.
The first kiss.
The big moments.
And don’t get me wrong—those moments are beautiful.
But my favorite part of a wedding day?
It’s not what most people think.

It’s the In-Between Moments
It’s the quiet, in-between moments that happen when no one is really paying attention.
A deep breath before walking down the aisle.
A mom fixing her daughter’s dress one last time.
A groom wiping his hands because he’s nervous.
A quick glance between the couple that says everything without a word.
These are the moments that feel the most real.
And those are the ones I love capturing the most.
It’s When You Forget the Camera Is There
There’s a moment at every wedding where everything shifts.
You stop thinking about the timeline.
You stop thinking about the photos.
You stop thinking about who’s watching.
You just… exist in the moment.
That’s when the magic happens.
That’s when the laughter is real.
The emotions come out.
The moments become unforgettable.
It’s the First Time You’re Finally Together
Whether you do a first look or see each other at the aisle…
There’s always that moment where it hits you:
“This is really happening.”
And for just a second, everything else fades away.
Those reactions—the smiles, the tears, the relief—that’s one of my favorite parts to document.
It’s the Energy Shift After the Ceremony
Right after you’re married, everything feels different.
The nerves are gone.
The excitement kicks in.
You can finally relax.
That just-married energy?
It’s unmatched.
And it shows in every photo.
It’s the Sunset Moments
If I can steal you away for just a few minutes during sunset…
That’s another one of my favorite parts of the day.
It’s usually the first quiet moment you’ve had together.
No crowd.
No pressure.
Just the two of you.
Those are some of the most genuine, connected photos of the entire day.
But If I Had to Choose Just One…
It would be this:
When you’re fully in the moment, surrounded by your people, and you don’t even realize how special it all is yet.
Because I do.
And I get to capture it for you.
Why It Matters
Anyone can take photos of the big moments.
But the real story of your wedding day?
It lives in everything in between.
That’s what you’ll come back to years from now.
That’s what will bring you right back to how it felt.

Final Thoughts
After photographing hundreds of weddings across West Michigan and Kalamazoo, I can honestly say this:
My favorite part of a wedding day isn’t just one moment.
It’s all the little ones that most people don’t even notice.
And being trusted to capture those?
That’s something I will never take for granted.
